How we vet carriers

You trust us with your freight, and we choose who hauls it. Here is what we check before a carrier partner ever gets one of your loads.

Vetting

Six checks on every carrier partner

Double brokering and freight fraud start with carriers nobody checked. Our vetting is built to catch them before your freight is on the line.

  • Active authority on FMCSA SAFER

We confirm the carrier is authorized for hire, the legal name and USDOT and MC numbers match, and the authority is active before a load is offered.

  • Insurance on file and current

A current certificate of insurance for auto liability and cargo, issued by the carrier's agent, with coverage suited to the freight.

  • Safety record

We review the carrier's safety rating, inspection and crash history and out-of-service rates on FMCSA before tendering.

  • Identity and contact match

Phone, email and dispatcher details are checked against the carrier's own record, so we know we are dealing with the real company and not an impersonator.

  • Double-broker screen

Every carrier signs a broker-carrier agreement that prohibits re-brokering, and the truck at pickup has to match the carrier on the rate confirmation.

  • Ongoing monitoring

Authority and insurance can change after setup, so carrier records are rechecked, not just reviewed once.

FAQ

Carrier vetting questions

What is carrier vetting?

Carrier vetting is how a freight broker checks a trucking company before trusting it with a load: confirming its operating authority, insurance, safety record and identity, and screening out carriers that might re-broker the freight.

Why does carrier vetting matter to shippers?

When you work with a broker, the broker chooses the carrier that hauls your freight. Careful vetting lowers the risk of double brokering, cargo theft and uninsured losses, and it is fair to ask any broker how they do it.
